When do I need a bench harness for my DDEC ECM?
A bench harness is useful when a Detroit Series 60 engine shows signs of an ECM issue: a crank-but-no-start condition, no communication with your scan tool, intermittent or random shutdowns, or hard starting when hot. Connecting the ECM on the bench lets you power it up, verify communication, and test the module off the truck to confirm whether the ECM itself is the problem before reinstalling it.
Which DDEC generations does this bench harness cover?
This harness works with Detroit Diesel DDEC 2, DDEC 3, and DDEC 4 electronics on the Series 60 12.7L engine. DDEC 5, DDEC 6, and the newer DD-series engines use different ECM connections and need a different harness — we offer separate bench harnesses for those. If you are not sure which DDEC generation your engine uses, contact us before ordering.
